• Enter boot menu by hitting ESC repeatedly, choose from menu, or F9.
• Wait a minute
• double click 'Install Linux Mint'
• Follow instructions

Optimize X11 server (Xorg)

From this I learned how to optimize the X11 server.

Create the file /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/99-intel.conf with the following content:

   Option "TearFree" "true"
   Option "DRI" "3"

When running xsnow, Xorg uses 60-70% cpu without this file. With this file, Xorg uses less then 15%.
